TOK AND THE PROFILE LEARNER ATTRIBUTES

The table below shows some of the links between TOK and the learner profile attributes.  Which do you think is the hardest attribute to achieve? Give your answer, then comment two of your classmates commentaries.  You will be graded according to the following guide:

◻︎  My answer focuses only on answering the question.  This means that I only include relevant information.
◻︎  I make statements about my classmates entries and justify them without repeating their words.

Inquirers
TOK students seek to find out how knowledge is constructed using various ways of knowing and by considering what constitutes knowledge in various areas of knowledge. It is a fundamental premise of TOK that personal knowledge should not result from simple acceptance of knowledge claims without sufficient inquiry and evidence.
Knowledgeable
TOK students strive to be knowledgeable about the nature of knowledge. This means becoming knowledgeable about the methods of inquiry of a variety of subject areas, from a number of perspectives. Students are encouraged to explore the processes by which individuals arrive at their own knowledge and understanding of the world and the presuppositions that underpin this understanding.
Thinkers
TOK students examine thinking in order to understand what constitutes good thinking and also to recognize potential flaws in thought processes. Students also think about what thinking is required in a variety of situations, as well as how thinking relates to emotional processing and intuition.
Communicators
TOK students are required by the TOK assessment tasks to communicate their understanding and perspective in both oral and written form. Students also study the language that is used to develop a body of knowledge, so they learn what gives language its power as well as what causes failures of communication.
Principled
TOK students scrutinize knowledge in a critical manner, leading to what could be called principled knowledge. Students are required to examine the relationship between possessing knowledge and the moral obligations that this carries. Learning to see the world from a TOK perspective challenges students to think about acting in principled ways.
Open-minded
TOK students need to be open-minded about knowledge claims they encounter. They will learn not to simply accept claims at face value, but to consider the factual accuracy of any proposition and the potential emotional, social or cognitive bias of any person making a proposition. At the same time, they must learn to balance skepticism with belief, and recognize that in many situations there is a need to make decisions without possessing absolute certainty.
Caring
TOK students are asked to care about how they use their knowledge. This necessarily means thinking about how knowledge can be used in sympathetic, empathetic and compassionate ways.
Risk-takers
TOK students must be willing to risk questioning what they hold to be true. This means that they must be willing to risk being wrong. When we are willing to accept being wrong then we make progress towards correcting existing misconceptions and increasing our knowledge and understanding of the world. The word “judgment” is central in TOK, and students should be prepared to take the risks involved in making judgments in matters where the evidence does not definitively favour one view or another, while at the same time acknowledging the provisional nature of these judgments.
Balanced
TOK students are committed to viewing knowledge claims from different perspectives. They are also required to consider a range of areas of knowledge. TOK requires a balance of ability in speaking and writing, and a balance of ability in drawing general conclusions from specific examples and in drawing on specific examples to demonstrate general claims.
Reflective
TOK students learn to reflect on the degree to which their own and other people’s motivations, beliefs, thought processes and emotional reactions influence what they know and what they are capable of knowing.

  1. I think that the most difficult IB characteristic to acquire is to be a risk taker. Many times we are afraid to say or to do something wrong and we prefer not to do it. But what we need to realize is that we learn from mistakes. In life it is necessary to take risks in many situations and it can have a positive or a negative result. But if it is a mistake, it is not a bad thing because it gives us experience for future situations we are going to face. Also, when we know we are wrong about something, we want to become better and correct what's not right; in that moment we are making progress and we are increasing our knowledge.

    3. I agree with you Claudia, I think that when you take some risks even if they come wrong or right there is always going to be something to learn about it, and if it was a mistake you will not do it again, this will give you experience for future problems or times of stress in your life.

    4. I think the same way as Claudia and Isabella about being a risk taking student. I agree that it is very difficult to challenge yourself and be brave when faced with a hazard or something that costs too much or that it is not normal in a day to day situation. But what I think is that from those risks you take, they will be usefull as experince for future positions and can also make you realize how far you can get without having an idea of what you can really achieve.

    5. I think the same as you; it is difficult to be risk taker. The difficult part is when to take the risk and when not. If you now it would help you to discover something that is going to be helpful or that has good consequences in life you may just think why not? But in other case that you are not sure enough of what consequences it will have you may also do it because as humans we make mistakes and it is important sometimes to make things wrong in order to learn and not make hat kind of mistake again.

    6. i agree with you, being a risk taker is hard for many people because usually people want to be right with what they are doing but they are not always right, and they have to accept that and take the risk of doing something you are scared of doing, but every risk you take , is a chance for to learn new things, i think people learn more from their mistakes than from their achievements. many times people know they are good at something and don't take the risk of doing it because of the hard things that might come with it , but in life everything comes with a god and bad thing, we just have to know how to manage them .

    7. I do agree with you Claudia. There are of course important milestones in which we do not want to EVER make a mistake. But, it is fact we learn better when we make them than when we don't.

    8. I am agree with you Claudia, it is true that take risk is difficult because you don´t know what can happen at the end and at the start you don´t know how to start with, but if you do it correctly, step by step it will be easy to get what you want. Normally at the end of something that you were practicing for a long time end in a good way.

    9. I agree with Claudia. Because whenever you want to take a risk you don't know the consequences of this act. It may result devastating or it could be a good result. But if this risk is something you like or enjoy yourself doing it, it may turn out right and you will be grateful of the risk you have taken

    11. agree with Claudia and Isabella. It is very difficult to be a risk taker, because sometimes you have to take risks even if you do not know if they are right or wrong. If it is a good result we will be happy but if it does not, we may be disappointed. We sometimes should always look the positive side of things, being a risk taker has benefits because it is a opportunity to learn new things and I think that most of us learn more from our mistakes so we ensure that we would not commit it again.

    12. I enjoyed reading this reflection because I saw ambition from you as a student. Wanting to correct your mistakes to improve your performance is admirable. As it was mentioned, the one who benefits is directly the student. By taking risks we step out of our comfort zone, and it is crucial to make the best out of all those opportunities, because later on, life will bring many scenarios where we’ll have to speak up and take chances to stand out in whatever field it is we choose to work in.

      Delete
    13. You all have a point for taking risks, but still I sense a fear of making mistakes. Normal, mature people make mistakes very often. I insist on advising you to view mistakes as learning opportunities not as fiascos.

  3. According to the characteristics of a TOK student I think that the hardest to achieve is to be a risk-taking person. Based on my personal experience I feel that when you are doing what you have already done or practiced before, you feel more confident and safe. For example, when you have to go to los ceibos form samborondon and you have to be there in a short period of time, and you always cross the bridge and never go through the perimetral, you will probably choose going through the bridge because you have already went in that way and have experience of that route. So, in the case of school it is easier to do things that you have already experienced than new ones, that is why I think it is harder for us students to fulfill the risk-taking characteristic.

    1. I agree with you Isabella, personally, I also find this attribute to be the hardest one among all the characteristics of the IB student profile because it demands you to step out of your comfort zone, to take decisions that you woulnd´t normally take and to agree to make judgements without knowing if they are actually correct or wrong, believing that at some point you´ll benefit from that mistake or learn more from that truthful statement

      Delete
    2. I agree with what Ana Maria and Isabella said, being risk takers is not essay but it is something we must learn to take advantage from. If we don’t take risks we will be missing a lot of opportunities, we won’t be able to succeed, the only way we will be better on anything we want its if we face our fears and take more chances knowing we are actually capable of doing it. If we risk take we will stand out as a student than can stand as a leader and not as the rest. Also every time we try new things we make experiences that will help us in our personal lives and will help us grow mentally.

    3. I think you're right Isabella sometimes we do not like to experience new things and we usually do what we are used to do and we are not all for it to taking risk bur for and IB student it a requirement to take risk like get the diploma instead of the certificate because you would be taking a mayor risk but it's for the benefit of every one in the future, so sometime we should be taking those risks.

    4. The thing is, girls, that in the process of not wanting to make mistakes, remaining in the comfort zone (as Ana María mentions) we may be missing something bigger and more successful. Taking risks is related to decision-making, a skill successful people have acquired. How do you evaluate yourselves in terms of decision-making?

      Delete
  4. I think that the hardest atributte to achieve is been an open minded student, because it takes a lot of tolerance and respect for others perspectives and opinions. Also it means to appreciate and know about your own culture, so you can accept others people different values and traditions, and learn from their experience so in that way you can improve yourself and omit certain mistakes. Other thing a open minded student may incorporate is not only accepting different claims, is being capable of knowing the potencial it has and how to make decisions about it without having absolute certainty.

    1. I agree with you Daniela , sometimes it is hard to be an open minded student because of many aspects . One of them is where we live and where we spend most of our times . We tend to think according to what we believe its correct but there are times that we close ourselves to listen to other perspectives and opinions because we are so sure that ours are the right one . I believe that being an open minded is really important especially for the future , when we will go to different environments and we will hear and see different types of opinions , believes and thoughts we should be able to respect them , the way they should respect ours .

      Delete
    2. It is true, being open-minded is definitely not easy at all. It is hard to try to change your perspective about something especially when it comes to realize that your believes or ideas were wrong and you actually have to accept it. Another aspect that makes ir keeps us from acquiring this attribute is, as you mentioned, that first you need to be tolerant to accept and respect different perspectives, believes, values and traditions and learn how to live among this kind of differences.

      Delete
    3. Totally agree with you Daniela, of course is hard to be an open minded student, or person, because people may think different that you, or like you mentioned people may be other culture, religion and you always have to be self confident with your thoughts but you always have to respect those thoughts of others, it is difficult but not impossible.

      Delete
    4. I agree with you Daniela, I also think that it is really hard to open your mind when you are so used to have a specific way of living and live around people that might have the same beliefs or think the same way as you think about certain things. It is really hard to accept different people, their culture and traditions etc. There are going to be times when we have to understand different points of view that might be completely different from the way we see something, and we will have to try to understand that person and also respect their position. We should try to open our minds so that we can understand everyone’s thoughts.

      Delete
    5. Let me remind you that central to this exercise is acquiring knowledge or simply learning. Being open minded does not necessarily mean accepting everyone's ideas, it means accepting the possibility of being wrong about what we know. Sometimes we will be right, but even then, someone will come with an idea that will perfect what we know and we need to be open-minded (and humble) to accept that.

  5. i think that a hard characteristic of the ib student to achieve would be a risk taking person, because in my opinion, for example you are good in math but you are scared of the teacher or scared that you would hated if you choose it but if you like it you have to take the risk and do it and that risk would probably make you to be a better student also is very important to think what are the risks that you are taking depending of the situation you have to have potencial in what are you doing and optimisim. so i think that it is very harder for us in the way of students to have the risk taking characteristic

    1. I agree with you Nicole, sometimes it could be very difficult to be risk taker. As humans we have fears and most of the time it is very hard to overcome them. In the other hand we need to try new things in order to discovery what we are good so being risk taker would help a lot. As a consequence if a person were risk taker it would have a lot of experience in many different aspects in life and in a future this would be very good because it helps makes you to mature and grow as a person.

    2. I agree with you Nicole , and i feel the same about being a risk taker and considering it the harder attribute . Most of the time i feel insecure about taking a risk and i understand when you say that if you like something or are interested in something you should take risk to see your potential . I think the most important aspect to overcome this "fear" of answering wrong or taking a risk in something we are not so sure about is confident . Being confident while speaking even if we are wrong is really important and means that even if you mistake you are open to learn .

      Delete
    3. i agree with you, and I like your idea of taking risks. that its going to make us better because we can learn from our mistakes. to be better and better next time, and i agree with your opinion about that its more difficult for the students to be more risk-takers. But i think we should be more open and try.

  6. i agree with Daniela that is very hard to be an open minded student, because sometimes we dont want to listen the other opinions because we think that what are we saying is right but you can be open with new ideas that can help you to know or understand, it requires a lot of tolerance and respect, because even though you think that what she or he is saying is wrong you have to repect their opinion because is their perspective and you cant make that the think equal as you, so is very difficult also to be an open minded student.

  7. I think the hardest attribute to follow is to be open-minded. This is so hard because usually we work with a lot of people so we are expose to different ideas, thoughts, etc. Sometimes is very challenging to be opened mind not because you have to accept others, but because you may have knowledge to now what is wrong and what is right. For example, when we are working on analyzes something at school and it’s a group work, there would be a lot of different ideas and you have to be open mind to listen to others. In some cases we can be expose to make certain decisions in which we may be open mind so it is very important that we put a lot of afford to improve this attribute.

    1. What Claudia is saying is true, because many times people can be closed to their own opinion and they refuse to accept any other idea. This comes with arrogance and it can be difficult to fight this impulse, but it is necessary. Also accepting that one is wrong can be very very hard to do and that's why people sometimes don't listen to what others say. To be open minded would involve all of these things and taking into consideration all the points of views. And although it is hard, this is necessary to be able to succeed because there can always be better ideas than yours.

    2. I agree with you Claudia. Being open-minded is very difficult in a society that wants you to think this way or another, being different sometimes is a challange and can ignite fights among students, because sometimes you can´t help but firmly think that your opinion is the correct one and that others are wrong and you even get frustrated when they do not understand something that is so clear to you. That ability to accept or at least, respect someone else´s ideas is very hard to practice as it requires contradicting something you firmly believe in

    3. I agree with claudia, being open minded this days is really hard, because we live in a world full with different cultures and ideas, because maybe you think of a certain way but , other people might disagree with you and you have to accept their point of view, because everyone has a different opinion about life and other things and you just have to know how to accept them and live with them

    4. It is true Claudia, I totally agree with you. It is truly hard (but not impossible) to have be open-minded. It requires being able to look though another perspective of someone else since not everyone is going to think the same way. We can´t be stocked with our own idea of things, we need to hear and see what other people think and have to say. It can help us to be open to new ideas and that´s when we learn from others. Because we can´t learn only from ourselves, we need to learn from others too.

    5. I agree with you Claudia. It is true that being open-minded isn’t about accepting everyone’s opinion, but to know that there is a chance we could be wrong about what we know. As you said, our school exposes us to many group activities in various subjects, meaning not only will we encounter different thoughts an opinions, but also in many fields. Daily, I feel as if I listen to many responses that may be similar or contrast in many ways; and because the group activity’s objective is to reach a final product, I believe I could say all of us are determined to reach an agreement or to work our way through whatever difficulties this may present.

    6. Yes Claudia, i also agree with you. It is hard sometimes to be open minded nowadays, specially since society is now very judgamental. It is also hard because not everyone listen to other thoughts or knowledge, because if your thiughts are not the same as other people thoughts, then you are not part of the society.

  8. I think that the hardest quality to achieve from the IB profile is being a risk taker . For me it is hard to express sometimes because of the fear of being wrong and i think its difficult to say something with confidence mostly if you are not sure if its ok . We should be able to take risks because otherwise we will not improve . For example if i am at the class and the teacher asks a question and i think i know the answer , sometimes i doubt about answering or not because I'm not always sure about what to say .I think that this attribute is the harder for me and also it is one of the most important because we should be always improving and becoming better , mostly learning from our past mistakes .So improving in this quality will mean being able to correct those mistakes and learn from them .

    1. Yes Anabella, being a risk taker is very hard specially nowadays as our society is constantly judging people and making negative statements about almost every single thing we say or do. This makes it difficult for us to build a strong character we can be willing to actually take risks as we grow with a lot of insecurities that do not let us make decisions because we tend to be doubting all the time about weather we should say something or not, do something or not, think that way or not, etc. And this keeps us from being who we want to be. So, we have to learn how to eliminate this negative thoughts and we should start taking risks to be ourselves.

      Delete
    2. I agree with you Anabella, because being a risk taker means that we should be able to act without fear of being wrong or fear of being judged. This is something really hard to achieve nowadays because people are so insecure and they lack confidence in their knowledge and their capabilities to achieve their goals. So this becomes the reason why we stop trying new things and this is wrong because if we aren't open to new ideas and things, we are only staying in what we know; while we should be trying to expand our knowledge. I believe that one of the best ways of learning is through personal experience and to gain this experience it is necessary to take risks.

  9. To be knowledgeable is one of the hardest attributes to achieve as an IB student, first of all, because the person needs to get out of his or her comfort zone because that is what will give the opportunity to truly learn something new as the individual comes out from the “bubble” or daily routine he or she is used to. Also, being open minded is kind of a key to acquire this characteristic and that is also a challenge for a lot of people; many of them have some troubles when it comes to evaluate their opinions and how they are doing things to change their perspective about something and accept the reality so they can learn how to be wrong, or maybe just respecting other ideas without having to agree with them. The next aspect that does not makes it easy to be knowledgeable, is that the person has to figure out what kind of knowledge is being aimed, and sometimes people tend to get overwhelmed as there are so many things to learn and they don’t even know how to begin. Also, to acquire this characteristic, it is essential that the one who wants to get it isn’t afraid of failure considering the fact that it won`t be easy and there will be a lot of obstacles and fast solutions will be needed as well. So, to be knowledgeable a lot of previous aspects need to be acquired and they are definitely hard to achieve.

    1. I agree with the part that Sara explained that in a way all the IB profile values are connected to each other, but i disagree with the part where she said the to be knowledgeable is the hardest of the attributes. Even though yes, it may be challenging to accept to fail and in some cases there may be obstacles to learning, i consider this to be one of the easiest acquired. Once one realizes they don't know something about a topic of interest they can seek to learn from anywhere. They just go to internet and google about the information, they read books or ask someone that knows. Even though someone may be lazy and now wish to go to the trouble of figuring something out, I think that there are other characteristics with obstacles more difficult to overcome. For example, to be balanced is harder as one has to control one self and measure what they say of what they like and implement the positive of what they don't like. This is difficult because many people only see what they want and they neglect other necessary but less attractive ideas.

      Delete
  10. Although it may seem as a surprise, to be balanced is one of the hardest aspects to achieve of the IB program. This characteristic involves every aspect of peoples lives and to be happy and reach success it must acquired. To be balanced is to have the right amount of everything, not too much of something and not too little of another. Many times people see only one perspective instead of the whole picture, and their comments or opinions may tend to be incomplete. this virtue would obligate students to broaden their scope of analysis and include everything, even what they may disagree on. Also people usually involve their opinion while writing or talking and they have to learn to see the positive side of the other option even though can be difficult. Another way that it helps, is that students wont only find themselves writing and writing, but they will have a variety of abilities to develop such as speaking, investigation and others which they might not be comfortable with as they don't know how to. Finally being balanced will help society a lot, because this way one can lead a healthy, fun and happy life withe less stress as they have everything under control. In conclusion, this virtue will help IB students through out all their lives, but it takes hard work to get it because it means limiting what one can do or likes and increasing what is necessary but one dislikes.

    2. Im totally agree with your opinion Nathalie. First of all balance is one of the hardest aspects and it is very difficult to achieve. Balance is necessary in life for every student because each one of them, including me, should have in his/her life the right amount of everything in order to accomplish everything without stress, in time and with success. We need to consider different perspectives and discover the positive side of things. Balance helps us to maintain an equilibrium that is beneficial to improve our academic life and to have everything under control.

  11. According to the characteristics of a TOK student, the harder attribute to achive for me is “Risk-taker”, because you have to trust in yourself and I am a woman who do things right because I know that is right, but if I have to choose the right way, it’s a little complicated. But then I have to made up the right way, and if I don’t risk myself I do not win. Taking risk is the base of our life, so I should be more confident about myself and take risks in every sircumstance of my hole life, being sure and prove others thing and stop thinking on the basic thins;I know that at the end of this journey I will be a Risk-taker student.

  12. Personally, I believe that being a risk-taker is one of the hardest attributes from the IB student profile because it requires to step over your pride and accept being wrong, which most of the time is a challenge for people our age who claim to know everything or that defend their ideologies at all cost without accepting others to correct them (since sometimes they think it’s ´rude´). Being a risk-taker also includes not only be willing to accept that you were wrong but to correct that misconception and increase your knowledge about it. Sometimes this correction has to emerge from yourself, after questioning your own knowledge as truthful and sometimes it arises from other people´s comments. Additionally, it involves making judgments on something without knowing if it is correct or not, but taking that ´leap of faith´ having the confidence that in the future you´ll benefit from that discovery or mistake

    1. I agree with you Ana Maria, nowadays people are judged for telling their opinions and attributions, but I think we need to take the risk to express ourselves and admit our mistakes in order not only to accept them, but to correct them and growing in knowledge. It is necessary to learn from our mistakes, otherwise we will never learn correctly. And of course it is not easy, it´s a challenge that we need to be willing to accept.

    2. I agree with Ana Maria since it’s a challenge for all of us to actually stand out and try to take risks that we don’t usually take. It means to accept when you’re wrong and when you do mistakes, to try and defend your theories and opinions. Sometimes you might lose hope because of other people’s comments and such but you shall support what you think and don’t hear others. If you are wrong though, you can learn a new thing and not repeat the same mistake. Taking risks makes us stronger and helps us gain experience.

    3. I agree with you Ana Maria, Taking risks is a really hard thing to do, sometimes we choose to keep opinions to ourselves in fear that we might be wrong, and its hard to stand up for what we believe in because were afraid of the reactions that might come from it.

  13. For me, the hardest profile of a TOK student is being a risk taker, because it is hard to risk myself to be wrong although I know at the end of the day I will acquire more knowledge and progress in my learning, it is indeed easier said than done. It is also tough to risk myself into something I know I´m going to be judged about .But I also believe that with practice and putting all the effort it requests, I will be a risk taker at the end of the year and overcome my fear because if that´s what it needs to have a quality of a TOK student, then I will.

    1. What you just explained it's utterly true Andrea! A TOK student needs indeed to be a risk-taker, so they learn to take extreme chances at a young age because at some point of their lives, not only them but people in general have to make significant decisions for their future. And for that, they need to foresee any possible consequence which may come along with it, whether it's a negative or possitive one. We got to be aware of the importance of the decisions we make and their repercussion in our lives.

  14. I think that the hardest profile for an IB student is to be a risk taker. students, including me , sometimes know that they are very good at something, and because they are scared of trying they don't give themselves the chance of trying new things , and make mistakes , because mistakes is what helps you to learn , learn from what you have done wrong, because yes, the achievements are great but , you don't learn much from that as much as mistakes can help you to learn to do better next time, and that's why it's hard to be a risk taker, because people are afraid to fail , because as everyone, they want to succeed in what they are doing. being a risk taker is giving it all in , even if you think you might be wrong, and still hope for it to be right .

The one I find more difficult its being a communitor, I'm not comfturble with talking in public, and I think that is a thing that can bother other students too, because some are more shy than others, and that its something that we should practice. I also think that the hardest one its the risk taker. Because people are afraid of doing new things because they dont know how it is gonna end, so if they haven't done it they should, so they can learn for the next time.

    1. I agree with you, because being a communicator consists in being able to talk to others in public, to transmit our knowledge. It can be done orally or in a written form. And i believe that for some students, including me, is hard to talk in public because I am a very shy person. But I do believe that it is a characteristic that can be acquired with time and practice and it is a characteristic that we should work on hard to develop because we are going to need it in the future.

    2. I totally agree with you. Being a communicator implies a lot of responsibilities, since you have to be able to deliver a message to a group of people without changing the meaning or in a way that it cannot be misunderstood. Shy people need to practice in order to get over it, because the ability of talking in public is a very useful tool for everyone's future, it's basically the key to success, and yes it may be hard because it requires bravery and courage, but it's something we can all reach.

    3. I also agree with you Renata, I think that being a communicator is really important because in that way you can express your ideas and your knowledge about something, and you could change someone’s perspective about a specific thing that they might think is wrong or right. If you don’t communicate what you think you will never know what are the opinions other people have about your point of view, and their opinions might help you to have a better definition of your ideas and might help you organize them. They also could change your perspective about something because what you think could be wrong.

  16. In my opinion, the hardest attribute to achieve is definitely being open-minded, because it implies to accept you might not be right one hundred percent of the time and realize that there are probably several answers for the same question. It is not easy to be willing to listen to other people's point of view of a certain topic without complaining about how "wrong" they are, but sometimes, we forget about the fact that each person has a different way of seeing the world, and therefore, everyone has a different judgment on it. This quality requires a lot of tolerance, patience and effort in order to successfully accomplish it. As a TOK student it is crucial to own this feature to get along well with your classmates, teachers, or with any other person that surrounds you, so both can share their knowledge, concepts, thoughts and ideas and get a better conclusion of it, without any dispute whatsoever. To summarize, one of the most difficult aspects to attain is the capacity of being open-minded, and it is also very important because with that attribute students can get a complete knowledge and learn to tolerate and listen to varied points of view.

    1. I totally agree with you Constanza, because being a open-minded is difficult, because everybody has a different perspective, concept or even a different opinion and as you said it requires a lot of tolerance and patient in order to accept the answer and also remember that we are all different, every single person in the world think in a different way that probably is not the same as yours

    2. Constanza I’m totally agree with you, because I understand that not always is going to be easy to be open minded with anyone, it is difficult to adapt with someone who is new for you so then you can tell more about you. or in the way you are talking right now, that sometimes it is difficult to accept the truth to someone when you think that you have the reason for that and that your theory is correct, not the others theory. But when you are not open minded, you can´t learned more because you don´t want to know and you are always going to be with the idea that what you say is correct and what others opinions are not.

    3. I agree with you Constanza, being open minded sometimes is difficult, you must have to streng yourself, gain confidence and to let go of control, which not all girls know how to manage that. Student must strength who you are and what each person believe in.

  17. I think that the hardest for me of the IB profile, is risk-takers, because being a risk-taker consist in trying new things and learn about mistakes and for me it is hard, because in some cases i am scare of trying new things, because i thought that i am gonna fail instead of give an opportunity to my self to demonstrate my habilities and also i know that fail is not bad, because we are humans not robots and when we fail we learn about mistakes that would help us in the future, that's why people is afraid of taking a risk, because everybody wants to be perfect and that is not possible, because even the most intelligent person in the world fail and then learn about mistakes and also i think that for me the most important thing is don't give up, because now a days in the world people fail and give up fast, instead of trying it again.

  18. I do believe that communication is a difficult skill to perfect. Communication is something that is a key factor in a number of forms, ways, and ideas. Without communication, a number of ideas can be conveyed the wrong way, giving the wrong impression towards others that you are not intended to give out. The power of communication in the right way can send a clear message of whatever you are trying to convey to whomever you speak. The power that a common language holds, it's very much underestimated by the people who speak them. Being able to understand one another with knowing the meaning of same words can get many people far, thus creating sophisticated societies that we have today in our world. Relationships, schools, common societies, and peers around you all use the same language, or else many of the things we know and love today would not have been around if the origin of those were not able to understand one another. Being able to communicate commonly is the only way we are able to share our knowledge between one another, tell each other details and also the way we are here, being able to talk about the importance of communication is a country, society, church, etc. Communication is one the most powerful tools and attributes we may know and learn. There are no language barriers to being able to speak and communicate with someone. However, there are barriers to holding the knowledge of how others communicate.

    1. Im totally agree with your opinion Carla. Communication is a key factor in order to express ideas. You need to say them correctly to give the meaning you want to give them and to transmit the clear message. Communication gives us the power to understand, share knowledge and ideas with each other. This contributes to an improvement in human relationships and for an IB student, this is very important not only in the academic life, but for being a better person in the future.

  19. I think that the hardest attribute to achieve of the IB learner profile is being a risk-taker. It is very hard because we need to accept in some occasions that we are mistaken in order to acquire the necessary knowledge to know correctly the information. Many times I have being scared of being wrong or saying something without confidence, but if Im not willing to accept that I don't know something and that is okay not to know, I will not improve. This attribute involves making judgments on something without knowing if it is correct or no. Every risk you make is an opportunity to learn more and don't staying with the idea that everything I said or know is right. Being a risk-taker is difficult because for we humans, accepting that we don't know something, is accepting ignorance.

    1. Maria Andrea, i totally agree with you in your comment. For me is also hard to take a risk, because im afraid of being wrong. I agree in the part that we arr all humans and that we dont accept ignorance. I think that probably thats the main reason in which people do not take risks. But taking risks should be a demostration of being brave and wanting to have a better knowledge.

    2. maria andrea, im totally agree with you, because it is true that taking risks is difficlt. for example, me when i have to do something new im scared of doing it wrong because it is my first time trying it, but at the end we know everything is gioing to be good if we do it in a correct way.

  20. I think that the most difficult IB characteristic to acquire is being opened minded, we are so caught up in our ideas and opinions just because we feel right and safe, we like to have our position in control and follow the rules we already have, but being opened minded will teach you how to let go of this control and experience different thoughts and points of view, is about making mistakes and strengthening yourself, knowing you don’t actually have the final word and that your aren’t always right, there’s more to see than what you already know and letting yourself go is a hard challenge. Also it will help you accept other people’s ideas and have them in consideration, your believes and other believes don’t control you, you can choose from different places and minds and that will make you more confident, something we all need to achieve.

    1. I think that open minded its a mayor difficulty so I'm all for it to Daniela's conclusion, because being open minded help us be more confident and trust ourselves even if we don't notice it we do make a change in our selves and start experimenting new things and new purposes in our lives.

  21. I think that the hardest attribute of the IB student profile is Open minded because it requires you to understand and appreciate your personal believes while keeping in mind that what you think is not always right and i believe that accepting our faults is one of the hardest thinks in life. i feel like it is also about accepting the believes of other people and cultures even when you disagree with them and not only that but also to respect and to try to understand the different opinions that you might encounter, seeking new perspectives and points of views

  22. i think that the hardest attribute for an IB student is balance because when we look much on one thing we were doing what matters most to us without thinking we need. for example if there are many duties and only one lesson we look at doing the duty because they are more and there are more notes instead of the lesson and decided that we have time to study at school which does not have, and so we are taking slowly bad marks without thinking so you have to have a balance between things and do things at the last minute because we are after accumulating all and we can be as an example and for an IB student is required to be a good student and get good grades.

  23. The one I find more difficult in the IB profile its being a communicator, because for my self, is hard to deliver a message to someone or a group of people without changing exactly what i am trying to say, also, i am very shy, so i need to practice the ability of talking in public in order to get over what i need and want to improve, then to express my ideas about something gets too hard for me.

    1. I agree with Ma. Emilia. Because for me is also difficult to communicate with others or to express my opinions. Also its difficult to have the ability of writing. But IB and TOK would help us through our essays and improving our critical thinking

    2. I agree with Ma Emilia and Arianna because for me like Arianna say is also difficult to communicate with others because when we are in a large group we dont what to say o exprees something wrong and look like a foolish

  24. For me, I think that communication is the most difficult IB characteristic because if someone gives to us a misunderstanding message it will not be good, but if someone give us an understanding message it will be great. For many people is not easy to communicate with each other because they are shy or things like that. For example; in schools when a girl have to make a oral presentation, not for them all are easy to speak in front of the other girls, but it depends on the personality of each other. Communication means to interact with people that can understand what you want to say. Also when someone is shy and can´t have a good communication, the others can´t guess what they want it they don’t express their feelings.

    2. paulina, i am agree with you of people having a good communication, because i know that many people, in generally dont know how to express their selfs and that is something that make people shy, so i think that having a good communication with everyone is good because at that way we will have a good message of something we need to know that we dont know too much about it.

  25. Personally, after Reading all the IB Profile characteristics, the one I find the most difficult to fulfill would be Inquirer. This aspects requires from students to be able to think in many ways, opening our minds into the perspectives of various areas, so then we are capable of drawing conclusions and acquire knowledge as these different areas would. This can be a difficult task. Since I have my own preferences towards subjects, perspectives or areas of knowledge, it can be tough and challenging to put aside for a little time the knowledge I’ve acquired through those ways. Generally, I tend to think inside the “same circle”, therefore I believe that I would grow much more as a TOK student if I gained the ability to think outside the box and observe things from a different view (the different areas of knowledge).

  26. the hardest attribute to achieve is Risk-takers because to speak in English or worse ton speak in public is difficult because I do not know if what I am saying is right or wrong, and that gives me shame , and that is hard to achieve because taking risk is difficult because you dont know what is going to happend , people takes risk every day but they dont realize how it can be is someday , the get ridiculus and that is my fear so that is why this is the one that I am improving every day , making mistakes learn from my mistakes and wrong on this issue to learn more than I already knew, so this becomes a managed to learn more with the support of the preofesoras have learned to be more open to public speaking and ask questions without fear

  27. In my opinion, the hardest attribute to accomplish is risk-taker. It is hard to achieve because not everyone takes the risk of giving their opinions, because some people are afraid of being judged for it and it is hard to accept that they are mistaken. But taking risk is an opportunity to improve in their knowledge by being judged by others. This is difficult because we are humans, and we are afraid of being judged by our opinions. I personally do not like to give my opinions, because i am afraid of them to be wrong, and i don't like to be judged because of my opinions. To improve in this attribute, i must face the risks and this way i will acquire more knowledge

  28. i think that open minded is the most difficult IB characteristic in TOK, because some people are not agree with having the same opinions with others. some think that what they think is what it is and don´t accept the opinions of others. so for me is difficult because if we are discussing about something not all the people in that conversation is going to be in the same side of others, and it can cause a major discussion. in conclusion everyone have to be open minded to learn and see different perspectives of seeing the world.
